Oh yes, like the full skirt and the pencil skirt, Christian Dior had his hand on the evolution of the “sheath dress” as well. He incorporated the tailored , nipped in fitted bodice with the “wiggle skirt” or pencil skirt to create what we know today as the sheath dress.
The bodice has a sleeveless, capped or an elbow length sleeve and the scoop neck or boatneck neckline looks amazing on most women. Today the sheath dress is worn at all lengths…..as a mini, just above the knee or a midi with a kick pleat.
The sheath dress is one of the most versatile silhouettes in fashion and a main piece of building a woman’s wardrobe today. It is defined as a closely fitted dress that is contoured to the body and has curves in all the right places.
Today’s sheath can come in beautiful print fabrics and bright colors. Mainly because of it’s versatility, I prefer a solid color to work in to my wardrobe. I love this style because I can wear it in so many different ways. Wear it to a cocktail party with diamonds, pearls or rhinestones, add a blazer and belt for the office or a luncheon and for a trendier look add leggings, boots or booties with a moto leather jacket.
I highly recommend investing in a couple of well made sheath dresses to diversify your wardrobe. It will be a main stay for a long time!!!
