cruising right along into this new year

Hello everyone….are you cruising right along into this new year keeping your New Year resolutions? Well, I took a break from my blog last week so I could take a vacation and also plan some great topics for you this year. Since I started my blog back in September, I have mostly been doing fashion blogs, but starting today I will be adding some Travel, Interiors, Beauty, Events, Fitness and Well Being blogs. I am so excited…….. so let’s get started with a little trip to the Bahamian Islands with friends on a private 85 ft Hatteras fishing yacht.

Are you thinking of a warm, tropical, beach vacation that isn’t too far? If you are from the Eastern half of the US consider a trip to the Bahamian Islands. STOP DREAMING AND START PLANNING!!

Where are the Bahamian Islands?:They are made up of islands & cays that lie southeast from the East Coast of Southern Florida. They are linked together by coral reefs & surrounded by some of the deepest waters in the northern hemisphere & is very good for fishing. What is a Cay?? Correctly pronounced “keys” is a small, low-lying island, ,most likely coral fringed, probably sand on a limestone & coral base. In the United states the word Cay still survives today (misspelled) in the name Key West. An island is the same, just larger.

Now, that you have had a little lesson…. on to our trip…..

December 30, 2014 Arrival in Nassau on Providence Island.

Settled in to our cabin and enjoyed a relaxing dinner on the boat.

Out the harbor and cruised for 8 hours north up the chain of cays & islands until we were led in to Harbor Island, Eleuthera by a ship pilot, due to the shallow waters. We had sunny skies, mild winds & perfect temperatures that made for smooth cruising. We had the fishing line out all the way and caught a beautiful Dorado ( Mahi Mahi or Dolphin ). Our ship pilot brought us a whole mess of large stone crab that our amazing chef prepared for dinner. I might add that the Bahamian flat bread is to die for!!!!! Yum….Yum…..

Our group was so tired from all of the Christmas hustle & bustle that most were lights out before midnight. Not me…..awake until the stroke of midnight when the harbor boat horns sounded off through the island.  HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!  Sooooo hopeful for a wonderful 2015!

Winds picking up changed our fishing plans, so we stayed on land and did some island discovery. Everyone drives golf carts on the island, so we rented a couple of carts and did a little touring. Three marinas & Pink Sands Beach (rated in the top 10 best beaches in the world) make up most of Harbor Island. Of course a couple of cute local boutiques lured us in….   It did not take long to find my way around the island.

………..Part II….. Check back tomorrow for the next leg of our journey……
