SheShe’s 10 Travel Tips + Our Top 20 Cardigans

Happy Friyay!!! It’s a new year and I have travel on my mind, so I thought I would give you some of my travel tips and link some great cardigans for you that I think are multipurpose for travel.

It is totally ironic that I am writing this post because of all days Norman and I were flying back to Houston from Montrose, Colorado and we woke up to a snow storm. I checked the flights before heading to the airport and all still looked like a go. After we checked in for our flight, it became a white out and of course all flights were cancelled. Now, for the test to see if I followed my own travel tips.

SHESHE’S TRAVEL TIPS

  1. Book your trip at least a month in advance and if your traveling to a seasonal popular destination, I recommend booking several months in advance. The reason is that the airlines raise the prices as more tickets are purchased for that flight. I get a C on this tip. Christmas travel to ski resorts is the most expensive time of year to travel and I waited until November to book, so we paid double what we usually pay.
  2. Pack your essentials in your carry on. I do not have room for all of my essentials, so this is what works for me. All of my fine jewelry, my prescriptions, camera, chargers, computer or iPad, retainer for my teeth (that I just spent 2 years straightening), eyewear, toothbrush, spray mist, contacts, Id/passport, at least one credit card, ticket folder for itinerary/passport/boarding pass. I never have enough room for a change of clothes in my carry on. If you get stuck without your bags, hotels have shampoo, soap, hairdryer, lotion and other toiletries. You can buy anything else you might need at a local store  I get a B on this tip because I put my vitamins and a prescription that I take daily in one of my suitcases and our bags are in storage for the night at the airport.
  3. If you have expensive boots or shoes, place them separately in shoe bags. If you have 2 checked bags then separate the shoes. Don’t put them in the same suitcase. This will slow down and frustrate the thief. I have had several items stolen from my checked bag over the years.
  4. Use the jumbo Ziploc baggies to pack your outfits in. Many years we were on a cruise and our bags were left on the dock in pouring down rain. When we got to the airport our bags were full of water and all of our clothes were wet. By the time we got home many of my things had faded colors on to other clothing. Since then, I always pack everything in a Ziploc bags. They will not get wet now.
  5. Get a lock that is TSA approved. They can open it, but no one else that has access to baggage can.
  6. Sign up for Global Entry or TSA pre if you want to get through security a little faster and without taking your shoes off.  I will do another post on this subject in the future.
  7. Before heading to the airport be sure and make sure that your flight is on time. I use an app called Flight Aware. It can track flight status and any flight any time. I found out that our flight was cancelled today before the agent announced it by checking my Flight Aware app. I was able to rebook before the masses of other passengers knew of the cancellation. Great tool!! I get an A for this one!!
  8. Give your travel plans to a family member, friend or secretary. You never know when emergencies come up.
  9. Wear comfortable clothing. Scroll down for my preferred travel attire. Don’t wear a lot of metal jewelry on your body. Even with TSA pre approved, too much metal just doesn’t work. I am getting better at this tip, but being the accessories fanatic that I am, it is still hard. I just take it off and put it in my carry on before going through security.
  10. Have your transportation determined before your arrival. There are so many choices these days. I have the Uber and Lyft apps on my phone. Uber used to be a great deal, but it depends now. Check out car services because you would be amazed that they are not much more than a cab service.

TRAVEL OUTFIT DETAILS

  • I prefer a nice legging and knit tunic top. There are also some nice 2 pc knit leisure sets that are great too. I then layer with a cardigan or wrap.
  • Take a cardigan or wrap. (check out some great cardigans at the end of the post that I have linked for you. Many of them are on sale now) Even in the summer time, this works because the airplane can be very cold. I use mine for a blanket. You do not want to use an airplane blanket unless it comes out of a sealed plastic bag.
  • Sneakers or a slip on flat is a must, because they are not only comfortable, they go with almost everything. I wear sneakers because I can put an arch support inside easily. Flat shoes don’t work for me. There are so many cute sneakers at many price ranges on the market today. Go to my blog post on “12 Packing Tips for Weekend Travel on www.shesheshow.com for some good travel information.
  • I always carry a small cross body bag that fits nicely into my tote bag. I put cash, credit cards, drivers license, lipstick, notepad, ink pen. A smaller bag is handy to have when you reach your destination so you don’t have to carry a heavy tote bag while waiting on your room or to board your cruise.
  • I almost always take a hat on a trip, even in the winter. It’s a great way to stay protected from the sun and is very stylish.

I hope you found some useful travel tips from this blog post. I have spent many hours of my life in an airplane and I feel like I have perfected the most useful and convenient ways to make travel a little easier and more enjoyable.
