Reviewing Jeans and Their Hemlines

As we all know denim jeans are here to stay, so for the third time in one year we are reviewing jeans, but this time talking hemlines. You can read those previous denim posts here and here. It’s really hard to believe that I will pay over $200 for a pair of jeans that have a hemline that looks like I took a knife across the bottom to cut them off. They are uneven, fringed, frayed, jagged edged and uneven, but are the top selling jeans on the market this spring. In fact, I just bought 3 new pair on the Shopbop sale that just ended. I gave you guys all the info in a previous post and a couple of reminders, so sorry if you missed it. That being said, a few of my favs were not that expensive, so be sure to look at all of the styles with unique hemlines linked in the boutique gallery below.

I have always loved my jeans even since high school in the 1970’s when we only had about 4 brands to choose from. Can you guess which ones. Let’s see….Levi’s, of course, then Wrangler and Lee, but the designer brands that were more expensive but so sought after were Gloria Vanderbilt, Calvin Kline, Jordache and have you heard of or remember Sasson? The 70’s really were when jeans became a part of an everyday fashion choice.

My favorite jeans in high school were what we called hip hugger (not low rise), bell bottoms and very wide legged. During this decade is when we first saw denim making it’s debut in skirts, dresses, shirts, jackets and yes suits. Remember the leisure suit that came in denim? I remember Brittany Spears and Justin Timberlake making an appearance publicly wearing matching denim head to toe outfits.

Over the last 45 years denim has it’s own life, it’s own legacy, it’s own culture. Every brand on the market has their take on jeans. I couldn’t even guess how many denim labels on the market today, but these are currently a few of my favorites.

Premium and pricier brands that I wear or they are my to try list are: Rag & Bone, AG, Frame, Stella McCartney, Mother, 3X1, Paige, Levi’s Re-Done, J Brand,  I have not tried Mother denim or Re-Done.

More affordable brands that I love because of style, fit, and price are: Kut, Levi’s, Articles of Society, Treasure and Bond, Blank NYC, Topshop (runs very small) and Gap are just a few. Kut is the best in my opinion for more mature figures but still have a young contemporary look. or many of you love NYDJ’s. I used to sell the dog out of them when I had my store, but they are just a little long in the crotch for my body type, but I do highly recommend them. Most of these jeans can be found at Nordstrom.

Denim on denim is another on going trend as you can see in my outfit today. Don’t worry at all about matching the colors of the denim. It is impossible!!! Here are a few denim shirts that would make great closet staples. I always keep 2 or 3 styles in my closet. They can be worn with denim or they are really cool with a sequin skirt.

The hemline trended actually started last year but is full steam ahead this year. I actually bought these fringy jeans by 3×1 last year and now there are a few knock offs that look the same for much less. The cropped style can actually be worn year around. They look great with short suede booties and they will look amazing worn with sneaker, flats, espadrilles, ankle wrap sandals and just about any shoe you want to wear will work.

We have linked a whole lot of brands with price points all over the board that should fit most of your budgets. Just scroll on down the the bottom of the post for some great selections. Just click on any pair that you like and it will take you to the website for your shopping convenience.

SHESHE’S TIDBITS

  • OKAYYYYY….Spring is on our heels….It is for sure here in Houston. No winter, and we are in full allergy season. The trees are blooming and my Amaryllis’s are coming out of the ground. We were mid 80’s today and calling for mid 60’s for the next 3 days. What we say here in Houston, is if you don’t like the weather today then just wait until tomorrow. It changes every day. I keep the frizzy hair serum for those humid days and cherish the low humidity days when my hair blow drys perfectly straight and shiny.
  • Guess what….I have something exciting coming March 8th, which is less than a week away. We hope you will stick around for that post….it will be fun and inspirational!!
