New York designer Cesar Galindo was recently in his home town of Houston holding court at upscale Sloan Hall Boutique to show off his one of a kind line and his unique new take on furs. This is the third time I have shared some of Cesar’s designs in my blog. The more I get to know him, the more I respect his unbelievable talents as a fashion designer.
While I was in New York for Fashion Week in September, I was honored to visit his studio where all of the magic happens and try on and purchase a few beautiful pieces from his fall collection. I am actually wearing his black stretch tuxedo legging in these photos. I will be showing you more of my treasures in the next week or so.
Recently, a furrier & long time friend of Cesar’s asked him for some ideas on what to do with old inventory that is no longer in style. They are just hanging in a vault with relatively no value. Hence, Cesar’s magic began. Call it a collaboration with his friend to recycle these beautiful furs and create more modern looks that transcend todays edgier and more eclectic styles.
He took these dated furs in all the old styles and replaced the satin linings with a light weight denim lining. He created a halter vest, made long sleeves into short sleeves and elbow length sleeves, designed a bolero with a gathered back, left raw edges in oversized sleeveless arm holes, and even made several handbags. They were all to die for!
These furs are no longer coats used to keep warm or to impress, they now become a part of an outfit which makes for so much more versatility and fun!! I bet your wheels are turning like mine were. I have my eye on one of the furs and one of the purses. I will let you guess which ones they are. I also have a couple of furs that I want him to redesign.
