my lips and spring colors

It’s all about those lips………those lips……how to keep them……soft and luscious….and my favorite spring colors! First of all, how many of you still have 5 or 10 year old lipsticks in your drawer?

Well, I hate to admit it, but I decided to purge my lipstick drawer and actually found a tube of lipstick that is about 30 years old. Is that sick or what??? I guess because it was Chanel, is why I never tossed it. Rule number 1, I am told…….chunk that lipstick every year. Ha Ha Ha……I probably will not do that, but I just threw away about 15 tubes of lipstick that had to be at least 10 years old and I will probably do away with more. I have recently refreshed my spring lipstick colors and it feels sooooooo good!!!

Before the color goes on, let’s talk about how to make your lips look fuller. Either genetics or age will give you small, thin, or shriveled lips. So, this message is for all ages!

Here are a few tips for the lips: #1. Moisturized lips look plumped at the surface, like a filled water baloon. Dry, deyhdrated lips look thin & shriveled, weathered , deflated like a raisin. Aquaphor healing ointment is great for that. Just apply at night and your lips will already look fuller in the morning.

#2. Choose a lighter color. Darker colors make lips look thinner and smaller. Also, a good idea to line lips with a flesh-toned liner or concealer, before applying lipstick.

#3. Always top off with lip gloss. The formula of gloss fills in lines and the light-reflecting particles in it will make your lips look full and luscious!

**If you were born with Angelina Jolie lips, then be grateful!!. One word from the wise, be careful with the fillers. They can be very effective, but if too much filler is used you will create the opposite effect and that is not pretty. If you decide to go this route, then use very, very, little. I know because I have tried it! I like my wrinkled, shriveled lips better than fake plumed lips!

I have used a lip conditioner or primer for years. It helps to prepare your lips before applying lipstick. It even helps with the bleeding of the lipstick up into the wrinkles and fines lines around your mouth. Here are a few of my favorites, but the Mac Prep+Prime is my new go to primer.

Next choose a lip liner that is a slightly darker shade than your lipstick. Here are some of my go to colors that I coordinate with my new lipsticks.

Lip Liner: Mac- Fashion Boost | Mac-Cherry | Mac-Boldly Bare |
