sittin’ on the dock

Here I am on sittin’ on the dock in Isla Mujeres, Mexico. I fell in love with this laid back island located off the coast of Cancun. To get here you will fly to Cancun and take a 20 minute ferry ride. We got around the island in golf carts. One thing for sure I had beach hair all week. Having longer hair made it easier to manage wild hair by wearing my hair in a braid or ponytail.

To me there is nothing more relaxing than a beach destination vacation. There are a few things absolutely necessary for you to pack in your suitcase for your trip. In other words, the items that you will live in while at the beach. This year I particularly like the maxi dress cover up. I took a maxi dress that I found recently and cut it straight down the middle, to give that kimono look to it. I found some cute maxi dresses for you below. A couple of them are open down the front already.

No matter how hard I try, I always pack too much and I packed several pairs of cute sandals, but I will tell you that I only wore flip flops most of the time. I recently purchased 3 pairs of Tory Burch flip flops. Yes, they come at a higher price, but they are well made and you for sure won’t blow out a flip flop with these. I cannot wear flat flip flops, so theses have a higher rise giving more support to your arch. Just a warning…..flat flat shoes and sandals can be hard on your feet.

I will not leave my house without at least one wide brimmed hat. I took 3 hats on this trip. I spend a lot of money on laser IPL treatments and any sun on my face will just negate the effort and expense.

Sunglasses are a must. They are not only a fashion statement, they also protect your eyes. Just make sure that they have a UV protection. I love my Ray Bans, because they are lighter on the bridge of my nose and have a sportier look to them. This season the mirrored colored sunglasses are all the rage.

Last, but not least make sure you pack a beach tote. I love my Elaine Turner Sabine Raffia Tote. First of all, it is light weight so it doesn’t take up much room in your suitcase and won’t weigh it down. I also carry my Elaine Turner Bella cork clutch inside. I can pull it out and carry it if I don’t want to carry the tote. My tote will hold all of my necessities while at the beach. Magazines, snacks, water bottle, and most important………SUNSCREEN!!!!

***Thanks to Elaine Turner for the beautiful and useful tote and to my good friend Dana B for taking these photos.
