12 Packing Tips For A Weekend Trip

img_5244I often get asked how I pack for a trip, so I will break it down some and give you my 12 packing tips for a weekend trip.

I pack my weekend bag based on where I am going and how I am traveling to get there whether I am traveling by car or plane. So since we don’t know where I am going I will use general ideas for this trip. I will tell you that I am pretty good at telling everyone how to do this, but frankly I am terrible at following my own advice. I am working on getting better at it though.

  1. Skinny Jean | Take one pair of Black that can be restyled several ways. I love J Brand, Paige or Rag and Bone. Many women in my age group or women with fuller figures might like Kut from the Cloth brand or the familiar NYDJ brand.
  2. Sneakers!! Yeah for the ever popular sneaker. Wear them with your jeans or wear them with a dress or skirt. They are the perfect travel shoe that is great for shopping, touring and even good for a light workout. A very versatile shoe for your trip for sure.  A popular inexpensive white pair Stan Smith by Addidas is a blogger favorite. For a little more fashion forward you might like these Gold Nike’s or these silver metallic Joie (now on sale) sneakers that I have posted several times or my new blue metallic sneakers by Ash. Unless you are a runner most of these could double as a workout shoe.
  3. T shirt | I like this Michael Stars tunic top or this loose fitting Lila P top. They both come in a few colors. Roll them up in your bag and they will not need to be pressed when you get to your destination.
  4. Dress | This dress in the photos is only $34 and it has an easy great fit. It can be worn year around dressed up with a pair of booties, over the knee boots or wear your white or black sneakers. It all depends on what you are doing. This more basic dress from Lilla P is perfect because it is also reversible.
  5. Boots | Choose the style that fits you. Any black or brown boot or bootie will go with your black jeans as well as the dress. Whatever dress you pack, just make sure your boots will coordinate.
  6. Leather jacket | a black or brown leather jacket would go over the jeans or the dress. This Blank NYC faux leather jacket is just under a $100 or step it up with a genuine leather from the same contemporary brand. That means it runs a little small. Here is another leather jacket with a more missy fit and goes up to a size 14-16. I even love to wear a leather jacket over a cute sequin dress here is another one that is really trending right now. Don’t be afraid to wear a black pair of booties with this type of dress. It would be a very new and modern approach to a cocktail look.
  7. Hat | No matter what time of year I always take a hat to protect my face from the sun. It also adds a special element to my style. Scarf | Burberry Mega Check silk scarf or a more budget friendly scarf by BP
  8. Jewelry | Take a pair of studs like the druzy Kendra Scotts and a dressier but versitile pair like I am wearing in the photo.
  9. Intimates | black and nude bra convertible bra | I live in Hanky Panky original rise thong panty | nightgown
  10. Take a small crossbody bag  that can also convert to a clutch. It will fit down into a large tote bag. If this tote is out of your budget I found you another great bag that is similar but much less in price. I like the size of this bag and this bag.  This will give you a small bag to carry while you are running and then if you need a tote to take to the swimming pool or beach.
  11. Makeup and toiletries | Below are some great zipper pouches that are great for your makeup and toiletries. I also use this little clear bag in my carry on. Some of my favorite makeup items: Eyebrow pencil by Tom Ford | Under eye concealer by Charlotte Tilsbury | Urban Decay Naked 2 eye shadows ( the small one ) | Sephora travel makeup brush set | Stila Eye liner | Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara | Georgio Armani Foundation | Blusher/Bronzer compact | Lipstick | lip gloss | Mac Lip pencilSunscreen | Obagi AM PM Gentle Cleanser | La Mer Moisturizing cream | TNS by Obagi Eye cream | Instyler hair tool | Jo Malone English Pear Fragrance
  12. Tote bag essentialsGigi NY zip card holder, I prefer to keep my ID and credit cards separate from my cash. I have had my wallet stolen twice with everything in them. I now can lose one or the other, but unless the thief takes my tote bag, I will not lose both. I love to carry a zip card holder for id and credit cards that I can throw change in. I have a money clip for my cash that is put in a side zipper pocket that I have easy access to. When going through security at the airport you will need easy access to your id. A small card and ID holder is so handy for me. This is of course is a personal preference, but I will never own a traditional wallet ever again. Sunglasses are a must. If I don’t have room to take a few pair, then I like my Aviator Ray Ban’s. Lipstick | I have worn Revlon #225 Rose Wine for years. It has a bit of an orange tint. I always get asked about the color when I am wearing it. I also wear a lot of Mac lip colors. I will also take a color with more fuchsia or plum color. This way I cover all my color palatte in my suitcase. I will top both lip colors with a Bobbi Brown lip gloss in Almost Nude or it can be worn by itself for a more natural look. Don’t for get your techie devices: phone and chargers, Earphones, Kindel, magazines, and business card holder with your cards. If you are flying then I love this light weight cloth ticket/passport holder. I used it on my trip to Africa and it was perfect. Cute too!!
