Burberry // Classic Luxury For Her

img_5022

When I decide to plunk down a large sum of money for clothing or leather goods then it must be classic luxury like Burberry. The reason is that it doesn’t make sense to pay a lot for trendy fashion because stores like Zara and H&M are knocking off these trends so fast and also it will be out of style the next season. What I look for are classic investment pieces that I can style in many ways and will be a mainstay in my wardrobe for years to come. This year I decided to buy a short Burberry jacket and Nordstrom had one during the Anniversary sale so I snagged it up. It will be perfect for Houston winters and a great travel jacket. It is definitely a classic that is worth the investment.

The History of Burberry

Burberry was founded in England by 21 year old Thomas Burberry in 1856. It started out as an outfitters shop and within a few years became the go to place for outdoor wear for the locals and visiting sportsman.Burberry also invented the breathable and water resistant fabric gabardine, that later became known for making uniforms for the British officers. Hence, the Burberry Equestrian Knights logo was developed and registered as the trademark in 1904.

Later the plaid check that we all know so well today, was designed and trademarked in 1924 when it was introduced as lining in the trench coat. Not long after, the red, camel, black and white plaid became the recognizable symbol of Burberry.

Over the years Burberry became synonymous for supplying uniforms for British troops as well as it became popular attire for aviators. It wasn’t until 1967 that the brand started using the plaid trademark into umbrellas, luggage and scarves. About 10 years ago while on a trip to New York I got my first Burberry piece….the classic plaid check scarf. It will never go into my resale or giveaway pile. That is what I am talking about. Classic and timeless!!

In 1970 The United States got it’t first Burberry store on 57th street in New York and by the 1980’s stores popped up in San Francisco, Chicago, Boston and 6 other cities. That was it…Burberry had arrived!!

Over the years Burberry has been revamped and marketed in new directions that have led them to be recognized an honored by the British Fashion council in the classic and luxury brand design categories. We have also seen the addition of fragrance in 2000 called Burberry Touch and a couple of years ago Burberry that I luvvvv!! A complete fashion line up in clothing, outerwear and leather goods are now the mainstay of this old established brand.

Ok now lets talk about Christmas presents….I do think that you could make anyone sooo happy if you gave them anything from this classic luxury brand be man or woman. Today at the end of this post, you will find a boutique of some items that we have curated for you that just might spark your interest. Just know…….. Burberry… classic luxury for the win!
