Weekend Wanderings | 7 Productive Things To Do This Spring Break

spring break, spring break trip

Spring break always seems to come at the perfect time of the year. A new season has sprung, the sun is returning, and if you’re anything like me you are in need of some rest and relaxation. But in between vacations or time with family and friends, I always find moments of free time that could be utilized before life gets hectic again. So we’ve listed just a few ideas to make the best of any free time you might have during spring break, or really any time of the year for those of you who don’t get this time off (even though we strongly believe it should be mandatory).

1) Read a book

Do you ever find yourself saying “that book was so good, why don’t I read more?” I think that phrase has come out of my mouth at least 100 times, as I find that I continue to be pleasantly surprised by the power of a good story. Every single time I finish a new novel, I ache to read more and silently ridicule myself for not making reading a priority in my life. So while you are on a beach somewhere or even in the comforts of your own home, grant yourself the luxury of a good story- I can almost promise that you won’t regret it.

2) Perfect a recipe

I’ve always wanted to have a “staple” dish. Does anybody else feel this way? I think of my mom’s famous dip or my grandmother’s go-to casserole and feel inclined to have my own personalized version. But every time I try to embark on this endeavor, I find myself rushing around or crunched for time, wishing I had more time to experiment. So this spring break I’m planning on spending the time, do allll the recipe research, and experimenting my way to the perfect dish!

3) Clean your closet

I know this one doesn’t sound like a lot of fun but hear me out. The beauty of technology is that you can now sell all the old junk you no longer wear with great apps like Poshmark, LetGo or even Facebook Marketplace. Plato’s Closet is also a great choice available in most cities, for those of you who’d rather you go in person. Regardless, cleaning out your closet is a great way to reset your wardrobe…and maybe even put some extra money in your pocket!

4) Update your technology

This is something I “never have the time for,” because I just can’t live without my phone and computer! I am so guilty of waiting until a problem occurs until I update my software, even with all the friendly reminders from Apple to do so. But with this extra time, I plan on updating the software on my IPhone and computer to give both devices the refresher they deserve. I’ll use it as an excuse to unplug and refresh, without having my face in a screen for once! Another great tip is to organize and delete music, photo and email libraries while you have some free time. You’ll be amazed at how much quicker your phone and computer work when they have a bit of free space.

5) Schedule, schedule, schedule

There are seasons of my life when my planner is my best friend and seasons where I go weeks without opening it- and the results are never good! Taking the time to put important dates and deadlines in your calendar ahead of time will give you the luxury of having reminders without having to insert information in a crunch… or when it’s already too late. Especially if you use a phone or computer calendar, the push notifications can be life savers when life gets super busy again. Besides just important dates I plan on setting aside time for workouts, devotionals, “me time” or meetings to catch up with friends- just to have that reminder at a certain time of day. Even though these activities aren’t as time sensitive as work deadlines or other events, they truly are just as important.Taking the time to insert them in your schedule will give them the attention they deserve!

6) Get ahead on birthdays

This one goes hand-in-hand with scheduling in advance, as you can use some free time to take a look at birthdays coming up in the horizon. Knowing when the important people in your life have birthdays will give you a little more time to find the perfect gift. Plus, you won’t be running around the day of to find a mediocre gift (or even spending extra on one) if you take the time to think about gift ideas in advance. Win win!

7) Plan your workouts

If you are someone who works out in a gym or even at home, this one is super important. I find myself finding great workout ideas on Pinterest or even Instagram when I’m sitting on my couch…but always forget them when I actually need some gym inspiration. With the “save” feature on Instagram and boards on Pinterest, you can sort through all those videos/workout ideas and put them all in one easily accessible place. So next time you get to the gym….you have no reason to leave early. Another great tip is to research workout studios around you and even go try a class, you never know when you’re going to stumble upon a place that you love.

PS: ClassPass is a great resource of trying new fitness studios without breaking the bank.
