Each year on February 14th, many people exchange cards, candy, gifts or flowers with their special “valentine.” The day of romance we call Valentine’s Day is named for a Christian martyr and dates back to the 5th century, but has origins in the Roman holiday Lupercalia. The history of Valentine’s Day-and the story of its patron saint-is shrouded in mystery. We do know that February has long been celebrated as a month of romance, and that St. Valentine’s Day, as we know it today, contains vestiges of both Christian and ancient Roman tradition.
One of my very favorite traditions for Valentine’s Day is wearing red. I have a lot of red in my closet, tops, shoes, scarves and dresses. I can wear red all year, but especially at Christmas and then at Valentines Day. Also, not to forget American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women month. Every woman should have a red dress in their closet!
I rotate my red dresses and try to buy a new one every couple of years. That way I am never without something red for these special times of the year. My suggestion would be to hit the sales to find your red dress. Nordstrom is actually having a great sale right now. I have linked the Nordstrom banner below for your convenience. Just click on the banner and shop for that red dress or anything else that strikes your fancy. The sale goes through February 22nd.
