There are some of you that travel and some that don’t or can’t for whatever reason. I chose a life of travel at an early age because I must have a lot of gypsy in me. My dad was the same way. For years I wore a uniform, first as a flight attendant and then as a pilot, but now I wear my “Traveling Cardigan” as my uniform!!

The best thing about having a couple of long cardigans in your wardrobe is that you have them for functional reasons like traveling, but they are also great to style and restyle over and over creating different looks from one piece.

Airplanes are often freezing and there are no blankets any more if riding in the main cabin. Even if there were, I wouldn’t want to wrap up with other people’s germs, so having a longer cardigan is functional, fashionable and it works perfectly for a blanket. In the summer it feels really great in air conditioned places like an office building, restaurant or hospital! Right now there are a few that are on sale. I have linked several spring (or year a round) styles below from several price points and styles that are very versatile. Just click on the widget (picture) below and it will take you to the website for your shopping convenience.

Some other staples for your air travels or road trips:

*A nice size tote bag that will hold a laptop, iPad, ticket folder, magazines, a small crossbody bag, medicines and other necessities.

*An airline regulation size roller bag that isn’t too heavy. I have 2 that I use depending on where I am going. One is a Louis Vuitton and the other is either a Tumi or my very affordable practical bag by Burton. I put my jewelry, camera, laptops, iPads, chargers, medicines, and other important valuables that I cannot do without. I do not trust any of the employees at the airports as I have had so much stolen from my bags over the last 40 years. Just be careful what you check is what I am saying!!

*Make sure you have plenty of identification in and on all of your bags checked and carry on. I love these Id tags made by New York Graphics. They come in many colors and you can add your initials. They make great girlfriend or special occasion gifts for guys and girls. I do not put my first name, but I will do initials and a contact email or phone number. Do not put your home address. Use an office or business just for better security or no address at all. I always put some contact information inside all of my bags because if your bag handle is pulled off and bag is lost, the airlines will still be able to identify your bag. That has happened to me too. It took months before my bag got back to me. A total miracle!!! I think I have learned my lessons!

*A small crossbody that will fit down into a tote bag. It is easy to pull out when going to get something to eat or drink. It is small so carry what you use the most. Id’s, credit cards, insurance cards, phone, lipstick or chapstick, writing pen, note pad, business cards, etc……

*A comfortable closed toe shoe such as a cute sneaker or easy slip on flats and some socks for sure. Put them on when going through security at the airport. It makes me sick to think about all of the feet germs on the floor there. Having comfortable shoes is so important because most airports require a lot of walking. Plus, it is so hip to be comfortable these days. Sneakers with skirts and dresses trending big time right now!!

*I prefer a pant that gives and has some stretch like these stretch jeans. A cute loose fit jogger pant would also work. If you must wear a skirt, make sure that it is a knit and long. Never ever shorts or short skirts on an airplane.

*Don’t wear heavy fragrances when traveling. The cabin is so confined and has recirculated air, so anything we as passengers can do to help eliminate smells, the better. Your neighbor that might be allergic to fragrances will thank you!!

*Don’t wear a lot of jewelry and belts. They are uncomfortable and hard to deal with when going through security at the airport.  I am the queen of accessories so trust me on this one.

Most of you know these tips, but I hope you got some good or new ideas from this post on “The Traveling Cardigan“. You might just find a new piece for your traveling uniform.
