I love discovering up and coming designers and while surfing around a few of my favorite websites, I tripped across this dress by Italian designer Marco de Vincenzo on www.matchesfashion.com. This Rome based Italian designer was discovered in 2009 by Italian Vogue editor Franca Sozzani when he showed his first small couture collection in Paris. She then awarded him first place in the magazines up and coming designer award called ‘Who Is On Next’.
What’s interesting is that his first gig was working for Fendi for 13 years where he worked along side Silvia Venturini Fendi. This is where he discovered his love for leather, fur and other luxurious textures.
I am so intrigued by his use of textures, color and mismatched ensembles. I especially love the geometric patterns that are most always present in his entire collections. Yes, I was raised with all of the fashion rules, but since I have been researching new designers and following street style looks from Paris, New York and London, I have now become very comfortable breaking the fashion rules that ruled me for most of my life.
Now take this dress for example, it is the perfect artistic expression from designer Marco de Vincenzo. It has pattern, color and texture and a lot of whimsical. There is nothing romantic about Marco de Vincenzo’s designs if you look at his contemporary colorful images, edgy unexpected shapes, but it does take on a new meaning when that garment lands on the woman and she feels the beautiful elements pulled together into one environment….then it could be very romantic. I will leave this to you to explore the deeper meaning of fashion.
