I HEARD IT’S MY BIRTHDAY
Today is International Women’s Day and my 62nd birthday. I have so many thoughts and feelings right now, more so on this birthday than any other time in my life. Not 30, 40 or 50 even came close and 60 was a little weird, but this one has hit me dead square in my eyes. This message is not in any way to discourage you as you enter into your 60’s. I know it is really different for everyone. One thing for sure is that I have had enough life experiences to be able to rise above any of life disappoints, heartaches, loss, etc. I get to my calm place by letting go of my emotions and if that means crying, then so be it. After that, I start deep breathing and meditating. I call it praying to God. He is my rock and he proves it over and over in my life. Yes, he allows me to have valleys, but with the right attitude and putting my faith in him, he always lifts me up and out of my pity party, puts me back on the right path and shows me that his path is better than mine. I hope this message resonates with some of you somehow.
There are several reasons why turning 62 sucks but, I am not going to spend any time on the negative, so I will tell you what is great about turning 62. First of all, I am still alive and very healthy as far as I know. Secondly, I am so blessed to have a loving, caring husband and I have awesome family and friends. What more can a girl ask for? Oh, I can now draw my Social Security if I want to. Ha! Ha!!
Everyone is asking me what I am doing to celebrate my birthday and frankly just not having to cook would be great. I haven’t planned any big birthday dinner or party this year. The older I get, the less important it is for me to make a big deal. I just thank God that I am still having a birthday!! I will say, I usually do ask for some kind of bauble. As you all know, I love all kinds of jewelry ……be fashion jewelry or the finest gems. This all being said, do you think I should ask Norman for this massive 40+ karat aquamarine ring? This honker can be had (if Norman doesn’t give in and get it first) from ALO diamonds Houston, TX. Aquamarine is actually the March birthstone, so it was a perfect choice today!
I have recently been helping ALO get known, as they are relatively new to the United States. A jewelry business started in Prague, they have elevated looks from classic studs to the beautiful flower pendant/broach around my neck, flower studs on my ears and incredible aquamarine on my finger. They definitely can offer up to all tastes and budgets. If you haven’t read about ALO diamonds in my previous post around the Super Bowl and then at Valentines Day, then you can go here, here or here for more about this unique fine jewelry company. They are a really cool jewelry boutique. I, of course, have my eye on a couple of baubles to add to the SheShe collection. Mention ‘SheShe Show’ at the Houston store located at 5085 Westheimer Rd Houston, TX 77056 for a 5% discount. It is on the 2 floors between Galleria I and Galleria II.
INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY
It is totally crazy that my birthday also falls on International Women’s Day and what better way to celebrate being bold by wearing bold colors and big jewelry!! When I read that the theme this year is #beboldforchange is when I decided I would go all out bold for this post. That isn’t hard for me to do. Ha Ha!
We haven’t heard very much about this holiday in our country until just recently, but in Europe, it has been celebrated for many years. The men actually buy women gifts such as flowers, candy, and jewelry. How would you like to get this big bold ring on this day?
DO NOT GET CONFUSED WITH THE WOMEN’S MARCH that happened in January. Many of those women didn’t have a clear reason why they were even marching. Most were just pissed off about the election. So, in my opinion, that March didn’t do as much for women’s rights. It was just a little too radical and turned off a lot of people.
Even though there might be similarities between the two, there are several differences. First of all be sure to go to this Facebook page called #shemeansbusiness and this page. It will do much of the explaining. Don’t get me wrong here, I am a feminist, but I also love being treated as a woman. There is nothing wrong to want it all. I can have my cake and eat it too. On the flip side of that, I will always treat men with respect if he earns my respect. It should be a mutual admiration society.
This is all about promoting and supporting women in their own business. This movement is a “vehicle to close the gender gap and drive greater change for women”. Will you #BeBoldForChange ( this year’s theme ) today on International Women’s Day 2017? Think about this and take action somewhere in your life that will actually keep this movement moving forward.
I want to tell you a little about my background and why the International Woman’s Day matters to me. In 1978 I was a flight attendant and was I was inspired by one of my roommates to learn how to fly an airplane. She just wasn’t any old roommate she was the 5th woman pilot hired by American Airlines. On many occasions, she would come in after a trip and tell us all kinds of stories about men reacting to her in the cockpit. Some stories were mostly funny ones but on occasion, she would really get demeaned and belittled unnecessarily. She really was a pioneer woman that had entered into what had always been a man’s world. They didn’t know how to react.
Fast forward 10 years, I finally decided to learn how to fly. Even in 1987, it was a rare sight to see a woman fly an airplane, especially in commercial aviation. By 1988 I had finished all of my ratings and was hired by a charter aviation company located at Hobby Airport in Houston, TX Getting the job wasn’t that hard because at that time companies were really being watched to make sure they were hiring minorities. What was hard though, was proving to them that I was smart enough and capable of handling a complex aircraft. I always felt like I had to work harder than any of the other guys to prove that I was a safe competent pilot. I always felt like they were waiting for me to screw up so they could say “I told you so”.
So, you see, here we are almost 30 years later and yes it keeps getter better for women in the workplace, but it is going so slow. They say the gap will not close between men and women until 2186. What????? Why? Ladies, in everything that we do, we must “be bold and be strong”. There is no reason at all that we shouldn’t have the same opportunities and treated with the same respect as men. Today and always, we here at SheShe Show lift up all the fierce, bold women in the world trying to make their way! Never ever give up!!

- A lot of hoop a la around my house today! Thanks to all of you who sent your birthday wishes! I am so thankful for all of you. Without your support I could not continue SheShe Show, so cheers to you and another year with God’s blessings.
- It’s Rodeo Houston for the next 3 weeks. If you are not from here then you must know that this is the biggest rodeo in the world and every night after the rodeo we have performances from big name entertainers. Tonight kicked off with Luke Bryant. Norman has had 8 seats on the 45 yard line for every night of the rodeo. We don’t go every night, but we do get first picks, so this year we are going to see Alicia Keys, Willie Nelson, Chain Smokers and ZZ Top. All the other tickets go to family, customers, employees, and friends. We will wear our cowboy boots and eat very fattening food. This is the time of year that I get my fat grams. So be sure to follow me on Snapchat and Instastories for all of the fun.
- Welcome to all of our new readers. Please subscribe with your email to SheShe Show at the top of this page or in the pop up box, so that you won’t miss a post.
