Every chick needs a moto jacket. Do you have yours? Today on SheShe’s Showcase Weekly, we have rounded up 20 of our favorite moto jackets in suede, leather and faux leather as well as in several price points. We are also giving you a little history of this iconic jacket.
Welcome to our first post on something new we are doing for the new year. Every Tuesday or Wednesday, we will be doing SheShe’s Showcase Weekly. Here you will find outfit inspiration, what we are loving, what is trending, how to wear, and where to shop our outfits, accessories and more. Next week we will be starting with Pantone’s 2018 color of the year report. We hope you will love this segment of SheShe Show.
Also, starting soon we will host a weekly Friday series featuring guests contributors bringing in food/drink recipes and easy DIY projects to SheShe Show. These 2 categories are not in my wheel house, so I will have the experts pitch in. It should pan out to be so much fun. I am trying to name this Friday series and would love your help. Leave your suggestion in the comment box below. I have a few ideas, but open to others. Use “Friday” in the name and an example might be “Friday Food & Finds“…..I just don’t know how to get the DIY category to fit in. HELP me!! Feel free to change it totally.
Moto Jacket ( a little history)
Moto jacket is short for motorcycle jacket. Every chick needs a moto jacket.
Back in the 1920’s Irving Scott, a Manhattan raincoat maker, came up the the idea to make a motorcycle jacket for the Harley Davidson in New York. This jacket called the “Perfecto” was named after his favorite cigar and only cost $5.50. Now days, a moto jacket can run as high as $3,000.00. I bet Irving would roll over in his grave if he knew how this iconic jacket has evolved.
Fast forward to the 1950’s where actors like Marlon Brando and James Dean made this jacket a tough and rebellious look that was ultimately banned from high schools around the country.
Soon After Steve McQueen was photographed wearing his tight fitting moto jacket during a motorcycle race in the Majave Desert in 1963. After that, we kept seeing them pop up on stars and icons through the decades leading it to land this jacket into one of a fashionistas closet must haves.
The moto jacket is so versatile. Wear it over a t-shirt, blouse, sweater, a floral dress, and according to Ken Downing, Neiman Marcus VP and head stylist, we should also layer over our cocktail dresses and yes even evening gowns. Throw those wraps and pashminas out the door!! These jackets have evolved…..right?
Scroll on down to check out some favorites of ours. I especially love this wine colored suede jacket and it just went on sell. All of the BlancNYC jackets are super cool, come in several sizes, have a great fit and are affordable. I am actually wearing one of their jackets today in the grey. I also love this off white one and black. For that matter, I love all the colors.
If you are looking for a leather and not suede and not afraid to spend, then I think this jacket by Rag & Bone is the the best black leather in the market place!! I bought one of theirs last year and I expect it to last the rest of my life!!
