Spring is here in most parts of the country and that means that summer is on its way. It is this time of year when we are sick of winter and pining for warmer temperatures, vacations, and cute summer clothes that sometimes includes shorter hemlines. Today we are sharing our 3 tips on how to style short summer dresses that can work for the young gals as well as us over 50 set.
First of all, I will tell you that I normally don’t wear mid-thigh dresses unless I am on a tropical vacation and I have had a nice spray tan. ( I never suntan anymore ) This cute embroidered dress was a no-brainer because I saw it as a very versatile piece to add to my summer looks. Here are 3 ways that I will style this dress or any other dress that rises above the knee.
- Wear with a cute slide or sandal. This dress has a row of tassels around the bottom that give the allusion of a longer dress. Depending on how tall you are is how I would choose the height of your sandal/slide when wearing a short dress. Now I am talking about us midlifers. If you are under 40 and your weight is normal then you can wear shorter dresses and a higher heeled sandal.
- Wear as a beach cover-up.
- Wear as a tunic with leggings, crop pants or skinny jeans.
All 3 of these options give you a variety of looks with one short dress. I have even hemmed some older dresses of mine to tunic length so that I have more ways to wear them. Re-think the dresses in your wardrobe and see if you can convert an older dress into a tunic so that you can wear it more than one way. I call this re-cycle design!!
