60 years and counting

Yes, I am 60 years old today!! It is really surreal to me that I could really be 60 (years young)! My life has been an amazing journey. As I reflect today, I can only thank God that I am having this birthday!!! Right? There is really no alternative that is better than this!!!! I cannot wait to see what he has planned for me through the rest of my life’s journey. I will take it any way it comes. Thank you God for 60 years and counting!

So let’s talk fashion and style at 60. There is so much talk about this today and I just want you to know how strongly I feel about this issue. “DON’T LET AGE DEFINE YOUR STYLE!”

No matter what your age, 20 or 60, do not fall into the stereotyping of what you should wear at your age. You should wear what makes you feel confident and happy!! There is no right or wrong style for you, however, I do believe that you should use repect for others by using good judgement when choosing your outfits for work, play or significant life events. In other words, I would not wear a swimsuit to a wedding or funeral or bluejeans to a formal gala. There are certain etiquettes that we should respect and follow. If you want to wear a plunging neckline, then wear it out for date night with your husband or boyfriend……not to the office. Do you get what I am saying here?

I also believe that you should choose your outfits based on your body type and the image you want to portray. For instance, if you are in your 50’s and you are in good shape could you wear short shorts. Well, yes, but choose carefully where you are going to wear them. Maybe on a vacation to Mexico or the Bahamas would work.

For me, I do not want to look like the 60 year of of the 1960’s. I look at photos of my grandmother at 50 and she looks 75 or older. We have evolved so much in this world since that time and the passing years has also changed what 60 means today. It really is the new 40. We have mastered fitness, beauty routines, conquered medical issues, and created looks in fashion that keep us youthful in body and spirit.

So, ok the tulle skirt might be a little much, but I loved it for this post so that I could make a point. I am not sure where I will wear this skirt again, but I hope the right opportunity comes along because I felt so good in it. I would love your imput on where I should wear this skirt and how you would style it.

Those of you who have already moved on through 60 and those who are approaching 60, let’s have some fun and explore some fashion options that maybe you once thought too young. If you like it and you feel good in it, then I say go for it!!!!

Meet my man Norman, who is my world!!!! We actually had our first date on my birthday in 1991. I will share that story another time. Norman makes me laugh and he laughs at me. He could acutually have his own reality show and give the Kardashians a run for their money.

So raise your glass with me……My toast……..Thank you God, Norman, my family, and friends who have supported me over these last 60 years. You all have a special place in my heart.
