Weekend Wanderings | 5 Must Try Drinks for Fall

It is officially feeling like fall here in Houston. The leaves are changing, the temperature is dropping, and the fall flavored drinks are finally starting to be poured. For those of you looking for an alternative to the classic Starbucks renditions of these drinks, we have compiled a list of recipes that you can make from the comfort of your own kitchen. So grab a blanket, find your favorite mug, and enjoy this year’s list of must try fall drinks.

Gingerbread Chai Latte

Kara Stout over at MindBodyGreen has found an alternative to the sugary Starbucks version of a fall classic, with her take on the Gingerbread Chai Latte. Stout uses almond milk, maple syrup, ginger and cinnamon to create her gingerbread mix before pouring it over some self-brewed hot chai tea. By using this almond milk and maple syrup instead of heavy cream and sugar, this recipe promises a calorie-friendly drink for us chai lovers this fall.
Crock-Pot Apple Cider

Nothing quite says fall like a steaming cup of apple cider and a cool breeze to go with it. This recipe from the Wellness Mama is simpler than most cider recipes I found, because it uses ingredients that you probably already have at home (besides picking up a few extra apples)! Although it does require a bit of a time commitment, this simple recipe is the cure to your cider craving…or the start of a fall addiction.

Pumpkin Spice Latte

As much as I want to avoid this trend, there is something about a pumpkin spice latte that I just can’t stay away from. But similar to the Gingerbread Chai recipe I mentioned earlier, Starbucks usually makes these beverages far too sweet for my liking. This recipe from Greatist seems to solve this problem, with real pumpkin puree and other ingredients giving this drink a more authentic taste. The barista behind this recipe, Rebecca Frisker, recommends mixing the ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat before putting putting it in a blender to add some extra texture.

Cinnamon Spice Ice Tea Cocktail

After some of these coffee beverages, you might be looking for an evening twist on fall-flavored recipes. This Cinnamon Spice Ice Tea Cocktail  from The Sweet Escape involves an iced tea soaked with cinnamon sticks that is then shaken with citrus flavors and a base of rum. Of course the rum is optional, but recommended for those of us already in the midst of the chaos that is the holiday season.

Pumpkin White Hot Chocolate

If you are making the recipe we mentioned earlier for a homemade PSL, chances are you’ll have the necessary ingredients for this drink as well. This Pumpkin White Hot Chocolate is perhaps the most decadent choice, but perfect for kiddos who haven’t caught the coffee addiction or a late night treat for us perpetual sweet-tooths. This recipe from Real Housemoms calls for the usual pumpkin ingredients alongside white chocolate, half and half, and of course lots of whipped cream…the best (and most important) part of any true dessert drink.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this collection of fall beverages and will leave some of your own favorite recipes in the comment section. Before we know it we’ll be making the infamous Christmas egg-nog, so the pressure is on to enjoy these drinks while the short-lived fall season lasts!
