We all know the classic trench coat and for me, I never thought it wasn’t in style. Well, it has never gone out of style, but like many trends they go on the back burner for a few years then they emerge in a big way. This fall season we are seeing the return of the trench coat as a fall trend and you just might see a little twist to this iconic classic.
Living in Houston we just don’t have enough winter to invest in those beautiful heavy coats. Even though many Houston women including myself have fur coats that we might get to wear once or twice a year, but we do have a lot of opportunities to wear a trench coat because why……because it rains a lot in Houston!! Also, because it is a nice weight for our climate. Read more ~
For the last few years, I have been mulling over whether to invest in my favorite trench coat made by Burberry because this iconic brand is where and how the trench coat all started. I finally bit the bullet when I saw the coat I am wearing in the photos hanging on the sale rack at Neiman Marcus earlier this summer. I had seen this same coat at the beginning of the year in one of Neiman’s catalogs and fell in love! I did not fall in love with the price though.
I love classics but I also love a lot of style. This coat had all the elements of the Burberry classic trench coat, but it also had that one more element that raised the bar just a notch to grab my attention. It was made in their traditional plaid with a pop of pink and then laminated. This was the coat for me and it was marked at half price. Being patient paid off, I got the classic Burberry coat but with the extra pop of style that I love so much. I even already owned the hot pink Hunter boots so voila!! Oh by the way, the boots come in 5 other colors!
History of the Trench Coat
Coming from Wikipedia: The trench coat was developed as an alternative to the heavy serge greatcoats worn by British and French soldiers in the First World War. … Thomas Burberry invented gabardine fabric in 1879 and submitted a design for an Army officer’s raincoat to the United Kingdom War Office in 1901.
If you don’t have a trench coat in your closet, then you might want to put it on your list. I believe that it is a closet staple and because of its classic style, it will be a mainstay for years to come. If the Burberry brand is out of your price range, then we have found about 25 other brands that look so much like the Burberry trench coat but with a more budget-friendly price tag.
