2022: The Year of Metabolic Health with Calibrate

As a woman over 60, I can say that weight loss seems like an endless cycle. Dieting and fasting seem to work, for a short period of time and then I find myself back in the cycle. I do the right things yet my weight always returns. I recently found out that weight loss is not only about diet and exercise, but metabolic health. Metabolic health is key to sustaining a healthy weight and body. This is when I discovered Calibrate and their approach of addressing weight with biology, not willpower!

What is Calibrate?

Calibrate is a metabolic health company on a mission to change the way the world treats weight. Backed by decades of research, and designed and vetted by a world-class Clinical Advisory Board, Calibrate’s One-Year Metabolic Reset combines doctor-prescribed medication with 1:1 accountability coaching on food, exercise, sleep, and emotional health that leads to 10% weight loss and improved metabolic health.

How does Calibrate work?

Studies show that everyone has a biological set point, the weight your body works hard to maintain whether it’s healthy for you or not. Your set point is a result of the interaction of your biology, genetics, and environment––more specifically, how your entire metabolic system responds to the foods you eat, the amount you sleep and exercise, and how you respond to emotional triggers like stress.

Calibrate’s One-Year Metabolic Reset is built to help you reset your metabolic system so you can have healthy responses to your environment and to health habits. When you have control over your whole metabolic system, you can improve your metabolic health and achieve sustainable weight loss.

Calibrate’s One-Year Metabolic Reset is broken down into 3 core components to ensure a metabolic reset that lasts:

  1. Medical Support: This includes doctors and prescribed GLP-1 medications (not over-the-counter supplements). You’ll get baseline labs, a metabolic health assessment, and help to navigate insurance coverage, as well as written medical check-ins at key milestones throughout the program to measure metabolic marker improvement––all managed virtually by a dedicated medical team.
  2. Lifestyle Changes: Bi-weekly 1:1 video coaching sessions (with a real person, not a bot) through a structured, 52-week curriculum to set goals for the Four Pillars of Metabolic Health: food, sleep, exercise, and emotional health.
  3. Tracking & Community: A purpose-built app for daily tracking of food, energy level, weight, and bi-weekly goals, alongside community events and groups for support.

What kind of results can I expect from Calibrate’s One-Year Metabolic Reset?

Calibrate’s earliest members lost an average of 15% of their body weight, saw an average 6.4-inch reduction in waist circumference, and 75% of pre-diabetic members returned to normal HbA1C levels, showing an improvement in blood sugar that impacts both diabetes and other health conditions. Additionally, Calibrate’s members also saw significant improvements in LDL cholesterol, inflammation, glucose, and triglycerides. Because of these results, Calibrate created The Calibrate Results Guarantee, promising eligible members a program refund (terms apply) if they do not see at least 10% weight loss after completing the One-Year Metabolic Reset.

While I’m not eligible for Calibrate’s program, there are many ways I can focus on my metabolic health. Here are a few ways I am focusing on mine and why!

  • Diet: When people think about the word “diet”, they often think about a program. Dieting is not what I mean in this instance. Like Calibrate recommends to its members, I try to eliminate processed foods and minimize fast-digesting carbs. When I think about my meals, I like to eat the rainbow, focusing on lots of fruits and veggies! I am a major avocado lover!
  • Sleep: Sleep is something we often do not take into consideration when we think about our weight. Not getting proper sleep has been linked to weight gain, as well. I take my nighttime routine very seriously, leaving me feeling refreshed. When I do not get proper sleep, I wake up and feel famished. The lack of sleep makes me super hungry and I end up craving foods I usually don’t eat! Am I the only one that feels like this? Surely not!
  • Exercise – I have always enjoyed working out. Norman and I used to run MILES every morning together – back in the good old days! Now I enjoy less strenuous ways to stay healthy, like pilates, yoga, and nice walk with my little Pippa, or swimming! With that being said I always make moving around a priority! My assistant and I have even started to set our alarms during work hours, to remind us to get up and MOVE!
  • Emotional Health – My emotional health was another thing that I was overlooking until recently. Our emotional health plays a MAJOR part in our metabolic health and just our OVERALL health. I am prioritizing my happiness and working on managing my stress better. Disclaimer: Calibrate is currently available for those between the ages of 18-64. Calibrate doctors are not yet registered to order labs or prescribe medications to individuals on government insurance plans and are also prohibited from working with Medicare-eligible individuals due to regulatory restrictions in place around the patient populations that Calibrate doctors are able to treat and rigid patient access programs surrounding GLP-1 medications.
