Today we are talking all white, at any age.
Every year for the last 50 years in the Clear Lake/Nasa area of Houston, TX, the Lunar Rendezvous Festival takes place. It is a series of events that include about 70 high school area girls (Princesses ) and boys (Lieutenants) between their Junior and Senior year. The festival kicks off in April and ends with the Lunar Rendezvous Ball at the end of July. All of the events raise money that goes back in to the community in various ways.
The Tuesday before the ball there is a huge fashion show and luncheon held at the San Luis Convention Center in Galveston where these young men and women are presented and escorted by their mother’s. My step daughter could not make it to escort my granddaughter, so they asked me if I would do the honors. Of course, I was over the top excited and honored that they would ask me.
As a good grandmother would, I immediately started on the hunt for our dresses because if we were to wait until July, the cute styles and sizes would be picked over. I decided on a color scheme for us and white won out. We wanted to do up do’s for the upcoming ball, so we decided to wear our hair down for the fashion show. My granddaughter wanted curls and a side sweep and I opted for some longer extensions and straight. The runway was at eye level to the audience, so we did not want to draw attention to our feet and planned on wearing a nude sandal. We wanted all eyes on us, not our feet. With all of the great nude shoe choices out today, it wasn’t hard to find the right shoes for our dresses.
The presentation, fashion show and luncheon all made for a very memorable experience for this grandmother and granddaughter.
