I am celebrating today my life in my 60’s as well as International Women’s Day! One year left in this decade of my life…. I am ready for what God has in store for me. Highs and lows, I am up for it!
As a young girl I could have never dreamed up my life as it has played out. My dreams were so limited based on what my mind knew. Get educated, get a job, marry, have 2 children living in a cute home with a white picket fence. My life didn’t go that way at all. As time went on my dreams started changing bringing me more and more opportunities and experiences.
Fast forward …. At 59 entering into a world of blogging (now we are called influencers or digital creators) I didn’t know enough about what I was doing to have dreams. All I can say, my life has been far more than I ever thought it would be but I knew I had a spirit of discovery.
As I move through another decade, I can see more changes on the horizon. Not sure what that looks like but I know it will be full of highs and lows. Here I go, another year and so grateful to be here to talk about it!! Thank you sweet friends for all of your love and support. So let’s all keep dreaming.
Celebrating International Women’s Day with all you amazing women!!!
I have so much to say about this designated day for all of us women and I have written a lot about it since 2017 when I first started learning about it. There are some great articles you might enjoy reading.
Because this day falls on my birthday I have learned all about it. Women started celebrating mostly in Europe but now the movement has taken the US by a firestorm and growing rapidly around the world. Be sure to read this post from 6 years ago. It will explain how, where, and why it was started. The following exert was taken from that post. If you have been following me for a while then you have read this and know this story well.
A SHORT STORY
I want to tell you a little about my background and why celebrating international Women’s Day matters to me. In 1978 I was a flight attendant and I was inspired by one of my roommates to learn how to fly an airplane. She just wasn’t any old roommate she was the 5th woman pilot hired by American Airlines. On many occasions, she would come in after a trip and tell us all kinds of stories about men reacting to her in the cockpit. Some stories were mostly funny ones but on occasion, she would really get demeaned and belittled unnecessarily. She really was a pioneer woman that had entered into what had always been a man’s world. They didn’t know how to react.
FAST FORWARD
Fast forward 10 years, I finally decided to learn how to fly. Even in 1987, it was a rare sight to see a woman fly an airplane, especially in commercial aviation. By 1988 I had finished all of my ratings and was hired by a charter aviation company located at Hobby Airport in Houston, TX Getting the job wasn’t that hard because at that time companies were really being watched to make sure they were hiring minorities. What was hard though, was proving to them that I was smart enough and capable of handling a complex aircraft. I always felt like I had to work harder than any of the other guys to prove that I was a safe competent pilot. I always felt like they were waiting for me to screw up so they could say “I told you so”.
IN CONCLUSION – CELEBRATING
So, you see, here we are almost 30 years later and yes it keeps getting better for women in the workplace, but it is still going so slowly. They say the gap will not close between men and women until 2186. What????? Why? Ladies, in everything that we do, we must “be bold and be strong”. There is no reason at all that we shouldn’t have the same opportunities and be treated with the same respect as men. Today and always, we here at SheShe Show lift up all the fierce, bold women in the world trying to make their way! Never ever give up!!
Even without International Women’s Day, women are finally using their voices.
I am woman, hear me roar!!
The photos are my birthday photos starting in 2015 at 60 years old continuing through my 60’s. My hair has changed and I have gained about 10 pounds but styles look about the same. It was so fun looking back.
SHOP MY LOOK ABOVE
My dress is a great look a like to a Zimmerman dress that retails for over $800. I am sorry to say it sold out before I could get it photographed, but there is a cute white one that still has all sizing. If you are 5’8″ it will be on the short side. If I belt mine then it gets a little too short for my liking. If you are 5’6″ or shorter then if will be just above your knees. I had so many compliments when I wore it yesterday. It is rodeo season so I am wearing white cowboy boots, but I also love this cute green May Jane flat by Vivaia. Actuaually, you have so many cute shoe options with these dresses.
