How about a some street style with a little zipper effect?  The zipper has come a long way. At one time a zipper was called a clasp locker, a commonly used device for binding the edges of fabric. It was also called the “hookless fastener”.

The clasp locker or zipper idea was first conceived and constructed to work in 1890 by an American inventor from Chicago named Whitcomb L. Judson . It was reworked a couple of different times by different inventors and became know as the Talon. The whole method is based on interlocking teeth and it wasn’t until 1923 when B.F. Goodrich named the refined design the “Zippers”. By the way, if you ever sewed then you must recognize the word Talon. It is actually an existing company that makes zippers.

Today, the zipper has become far more functional. Early on we had metal zippers, then came along the plastic zipper, and the invisible zipper. Read more here about the different types based on functionality.

Today designers are taking the functional zipper and making it a decorative part of a garment. Notice the top that I am wearing. It has a fake zipper, it is just for aesthetics. I pulled the top over my head to put it on. You will find zippers on shoulders, at the side of a top or sweater, on pant legs, pockets, wrists, handbags, boots, and the list goes on.

Up until recently, the zipper was not meant to be seen. That is why they invented the invisible zipper, but now it is really trending to expose the zipper, making it larger and by using a color that does not match the fabric. I actually wore a dress in a blog post last summer and another one for the Tootsies sale blog that is a good example of what I am talking about. Finally, I love the art wall  that we used for this photoshoot located in East Downtown Houston. It was the perfect location. I use many colorful art walls around town to give interest to my looks that I bring to you. I do hope you enjoy the talent of these amazing artists that paint these murals as well as my fashion styles and stories!! Just look around and you will see the zipper effect everywhere you go!
