When in doubt on what to wear, then you can always depend on a classic button front shirt, but if you are a little more trendy then the classic shirt doesn’t always satisfy that fashion appetite. Well, enter Chico’s taking that classic shirt and redefining it to fit many of our fashion personalities.
I love to take the classic shirt and put a twist on it. I remember many years ago when actress Sharon Stone wore a full ball gown skirt with a white classic shirt tied at the waist. It was totally not a look that anyone would expect at the Academy Awards, but it totally worked. Now designers are doing the unexpected, by taking the classic shirt and putting their own twist on it.
Fabrics
Take the same classic design and work it with different fabrics and it totally changes the look. Take for instance a satin fabric, denim or even lace and voila you have 3 more different looks of the classic shirt style. Most classic shirts are made of a solid color cotton, cotton poplin or some type of cotton blend. Now they even have no iron fabrics which I love!!!
Prints
Now classic styles can come in all different kinds of prints. Paisley, polka dots, stripes, graphics and more. I am always drawn to right colors like fuchsia, green, yellow, turquoise & etc.
Design Details
This is my favorite part. I guess it is the frustrated designer in me. I love all of the sleeve details that are being implemented into classic shirt designs in the last few seasons. It’s like taking the original shirt apart and attaching a different design element to it. Look at the blue classic shirt by Chico’s that I am wearing in the photos. They cut off the sleeve just above the elbow, then added the lace down to the wrist.

You will see back detail, patchwork, high low hems, side tie and tunic lengths all being derived from the original classic button front shirt.
