Hello fashionistas and want a be’s!!!! WELCOME TO NYFW RUNWAY RECAP SS16 // DAY 1. I have been in New York City living my dream and let me tell you, it is never too late!!!
Today is my first day at Spring/Summer 2016 (SS16) Fashion Week in New York. For the next 5 days I will be giving you highlights of the shows I attended…..many of which you may or may not have heard of. The cool thing about seeing new talent is that in the next 2 to 5 years one or more of them will pull out of the pack and make a name for themselves. It is so fun to follow them.
Today I got started with Leanne Marshall. She was Project Runway winner of season 5. Her clothes were so beautiful. It reminded me of a mother nature inspired collection with a fairy tale twist. I am such a fabric person anyway so I really picked up on the beautiful silk organza’s and silk chiffons. She followed the trends with some cropped tops and sheer skirt over lays over shorts or what we used to call bloomer’s except these have a more modern fit.
Her color palette took to the sky (with rainbow color wash fabrics ) and the earth with blacks, deep rich blues, off whites and emerald greens. These pieces were definitely for special occasion, but you would be the special one wearing any one of Leanne Marshall designs.
Next I headed over to the big show venue at Skylight at Moynihan Station located at 360 West 33rd St to see the Desiqual show. This year the venues change from Lincoln Center down to the Chelsea area and the Meat Packing District. As these areas are very cool, the shows were scattered around and made getting to the venues on time difficult due to heavy traffic. I hope they can work out the kinks before next fashion week in February. Uber and I are very good friends.
Desiqual is at the opposite end of the spectrum from Leanne Marshall. It is a much younger and more hipster line based out of Barcelona, Spain. I love this line because it is sooooo playful and colorful. They never disappoint in color. I also love their use of graphics, patchwork designs and colorblocking. They have started putting little boutiques in major airports now. We have a Desiqual store at Bush airport in Houston. The only thing I can tell you is that they run very small, so if you are usually a small, you would size up to a medium or even maybe a large. The sizing limits any body type over a size 10. If the sizing doesn’t work for you, be sure to check out their beautiful scarves and accessories. They work for everyone!!
