Happy weekend…finally! I don’t know about y’all but for me, this week seemed to drag on and on.
Though the weekday monotony can get tiring at times, one thing that really rejuvinates me during the day-to-day grind is getting in a good workout. I’m not one who works out often on the weekends, so Monday-Friday (who are we kidding…Monday-Thursday) are really my days to get after it.
But for a lot of us, finding the workout that’s right for us can be quite intimidating. Right now fitness boutiques with group classes seem to be all the rage–with apps like ClassPass making it possible to try a lot of those while sticking to a budget.
Today, we’re going to make things even easier by breaking down some of the newest, hottest workouts at the moment. So get your hair tie ready, because after this…you’re going to want to break a sweat!
Weighted Yoga
I first heard about this being offered at Corepower Yoga, and haven’t stopped hearing about it since. Yoga Sculpt is practiced by celebs like Kaley Cuoco, and is known for it’s low-intensity…intensity. These classes add weights to traditional yoga poses to sculpt your body in totally new ways.
Good for: Toning, relaxation, flexibility
Find it at: CorePower, BodyTemp Yoga
Dance Cardio
Hate running on the treadmill or peddling on a bike? Me too. But I do happen to looooove dancing, so I’m quite thrilled about this new trend. Dance cardio is just what it sounds, a way to get that heart-rate up and burn some calories to the tune of upbeat music.
Good for: Calorie burning, toning, cardio, flexibility
Find it at: Dance Body, Body by Simone
Reformer Pilates
I LOVE reformer pilates. At first, this type of workout really intimidated me. If you haven’t seen a reformer machine before it really can look complicated–complete with a moving platform and several handles. Even though this workout doesn’t typically involve cardio, I can honestly say that few other classes have left me as sore.
Good for: Toning, low-intensity, muscle-building, full-body workouts, strength
Find it at: BodyBar, Pilathon, Club Pilates
HIIT
According to the Daily Burn, HIIT, or high-intensity interval training, is a training technique in which you give all-out, one hundred percent effort through quick, intense bursts of exercise, followed by short, sometimes active, recovery periods. According to me, HIIT is HARD! That being said, this is an awesome way to really break a sweat and burn some calories–without spending the whole day in a gym.
Good for: Calorie-burning, cardio
Find it at: HIIT Fit, HIIT House LA
Pvolve
Besides just a fitness class in NYC,
Good for: rehabilitation, injuries, low-intensity, toning, strength
Find it at: Pvolve
