Most of you are not old enough to remember the actors Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon. They were the young hipsters of their time. They most often did beach movies with dancing and music. The one that I remember the most is “Beach Baby Bingo”. Such great memories of days gone by.
Even back in the 1960’s when those movies were made, the girls wore all kind of styles of swimsuits. Annette was a small girl but had large breasts, so the studio was careful to put her in the right style for here figure.
For the last 25 years or so, I have been wearing a one piece swimsuit. I think one of the reasons was that I felt like it was more appropriate and looked better on me. About 2 years ago, I decided to buy a 2 pc swimsuit to wear on a trip to a south Texas beach thinking I could get away with it there. After seeing photos of myself in that 2 pc swimsuit I had a realization that I acutally look a whole lot better in that 2 pc than a one piece suit, even though I was approaching 60 years old.
For one thing, I have a long toro and it has always been hard for me to find a suit that was long enough. My point here is that don’t get caught up in thinking processes that dictate something that really isn’t right for you. Just be honest with yourself. Now, when I am 75 or 80 maybe I will think differently. Who knows….right? All I know is that I will continue wearing a 2 pc swimsuit for as long as I feel good in it!!!
So if you are thinking of swimsuit styles, please try to ignore the age thing. Look at your body type and try on all kinds of styles. You too might be surprised that you look better in a style that you would have never dreamed of wearing.
A trend in recent years with creative fashionistas is to mix tops and bottoms of suits. I have the matching pieces to my suit here, but I chose to mix a solid bottom with a print top. I could also do a print bottom with a solid top. Since fringe has been playing a large part in fashion this year , I particularly liked this top. If you buy a print swimsuit and a solid swimsuit, then you can have 4 different swimsuits.
Again, don’t forget to wear a high SPF sunscreen and wear a hat to protect your face from the sun. So important!!
