Exploring Austin is always so much fun, but exploring Austin by pedicab is the the bomb!!

Hello everyone!!! I am back from my absolutely amazing trip to Africa and Paris, but right before I left Norman and I went over to Austin to see our granddaughter perform her last Highline dance performance before she graduated from Westlake High School and then off to SMU this fall. Since we sold our home in the Austin area last year we have been staying back downtown at the JW Marriott. It is only a year old and located right on Congress and 2nd Street. The absolute best location!!

Also, in Austin for the fun was my stepdaughter Suzanne and her 21 year old son Carson ( our grandson ), who happens to be a crucial part of the the SheShe Show team as one of my photographers and much more. Carson and I headed out to shoot some photos and right outside the hotel several pedicabs were waiting for anyone that didn’t want to walk around town in stilettos or fool with parking.  This was totally not planned and such a spur of the moment idea, but it seemed like the perfect way to find cool locations for our photoshoot. Lucky us we got the most fun driver that totally exudes “Austin Cool”.  He was also totally on board with our shenanigans and was the greatest to play along with us. So here we go………

On this Saturday morning in May it was bustling with tourists, college students, and Austin’s best locals that love the downtown vibe. As we headed down Congress St. we had the best view of our Texas State Capital. On each side of the street on top of a couple of tall buildings our state and American flags blew in the mild breeze. A wonderful reminder of how blessed we are to live in this great country.

Cruising down infamous 6th street, we could here music coming out of several bars. We were tempted…. but opted to keep on going. Austin is known for “Austin City Limits” the Live Music Capital of the World and it’s great breeding ground for up and coming musicians, artists and the likes. Next we found the large colorful guitar poised perfectly luring me in for the photo.

With the huge amount of growth in recent years, there have been many skyscrapers added to the skyline housing new office spaces, hotels and high rises. The empty nesters from as close as Houston and Dallas and as far away as California and New York are flocking to Austin to live and experience this laid back town. Mixed in with these new monstrosities are restored areas such as the warehouse district and the highly visited quirky arty area on South Congress. There you will find many cool shops, smaller historical hotels, food trucks, eateries and a lot of great people watching.

On the way back from South Congress, we crossed Lady Bird Lake. If you are an out door enthusiast loving a good run, walk, bike ride or kayaking, then this is the place for you. Norman and I have loved our time around the lake for over 25 years.

Our ride was all and more than we paid for. We laughed, joked, waved at pedestrians, and took fun photographs. Well, I hope you have been enlightened about the downtown area of Austin. Before we end our pedi ride I want to mention that there are many well known festivals in the spring and the fall as well as The University of Texas sporting events that are so much fun. If that is something that interest you, then check out www.austintexas.org for all kinds of information. Booking hotels, flights, car rentals and more is so convenient when using any of these websites.   www.priceline.com. www.booking.comwww.hotels.com,  www.expedia.com, Did you know that you can now book on  www.tripadvisor.com as well as get the reviews and compare prices?  Planning a vacation just doesn’t get any easier!! Be sure and book your reservations in plenty of advance as Austin gets full to the brim, especially during big events.

This fall I will be doing another blog post for you where I will give you SheShe Show’s Austin City Guide on our favorite places to stay, places to eat and things to do. There is so much more outside of the downtown area. If you do make this trip, then just don’t forget how great is is to explore downtown Austin by pedicab.
