let's fly away - SheShe Show

On the last day of our trip to West Palm Beach Norman found a boat for sale in Boca Grande, Florida. Boca Grande is across the state on the gulf side so we thought “let’s fly away” and chartered a Cessna 206 with pilot to fly us over for the day to check it out.

I always get excited when we charter because I used to be a commercial pilot and it gives me a chance to fly a little bit. We had a tail wind going over and only took 45 minutes. Beautiful flight!!! We flew over thousands of acres of sugar cane owned by Imperial. I had no idea that Florida has so much agriculture. They are actually the second largest cattle state in the country, next to Texas. We also flew over the northern part of the Everglades and the southern tip of the largest lake in Florida. No water skiing there because of the alligators. YIKES!

When we got to the gulf coast, we took a little tour over the island. Boca Grande is an island about 7 miles long and 1/2 mile wide. The water was a clear turquoise and the sand so white. Absolutely breath taking!! This island has some of the most expensive land and home values in the United States and some of the wealthiest people have homes there. I call it silly money. Billionaires….

After we landed we were met by our boat broker and he took us on another tour of Boca Grande, but this time a land tour. The photo below is a street they call Banyan Street because it is lined by these magnificent Banyan trees. Hurricane Andrew nearly destroyed these trees, but they managed to come back to their grandeur.

After the tour we had a great seafood lunch in the quaint little town. They do not let big box stores or chains on the island, so all businesses are locally owned. I like that.

I really hated to leave, because there was so much more to explore. Oh well, just a good excuse to go back.
