MY BIRTHDAY # 65 | WHAT IT MEANS TO ME

YES, it is my birthday and it is number 65!! Just thinking about my life for the last 65 years and thinking about what life I have yet to live for as long as God gives me here on this earth. Today I am reflecting on what turning 65 means to me.

WHAT TURNING 65 MEANS TO ME

BLESSINGS at 65

First and foremost, I am still here to write about this!. I have lived for 65 years where so many of my friends passed on earlier in their lives. I am SO BLESSED!! My mom and dad have left me but their love in 1954 led to my birth in 1955. I know they are with me today and every day and I want to thank them for giving me a loving home, a good education and demonstrating great work ethic.

HEALTH

So, outside of a few divits in the road, my health is still good as far as I know. I have been watching a couple of Thyroid nodules for 6 years. They are not malignant but not benign either. They call them indeterminate. This June I will have a biopsy at MD Anderson Cancer Research Center to determine whether the nodules are likely to turn into cancer. If that is the case then I will have them removed for sure. If not, then I will just wait and if they grow much more then I will remove them. It is great to have these types of testing.

As we grow older our bones, joints, muscles, nerves, and etc are going to start wearing out. That is a given. Fortunately we are living in a time where we have so many medical advances and cures for diseases and ailments. We must do yearly exams and follow recommended daily regimens so we can live our best lives. After that, then we are just on God’s grace.

FAMILY

Watching my family expand and grow. I just had a new grand niece born last week. All but one of my step grandchildren have graduated from college and the last one graduates at the end of this year. Last year we married off 2 of our grandsons and that means gaining 2 new granddaughter-in-laws.

Since we bought our beach house on Sanibel Island, Florida 2 years ago my 2 sisters have been down several times to enjoy it with me. I can’t tell you how much it means to me to be able to share my special happy place with them. I get the biggest kick out of watching them hunt for shells. Together they shipped 6 boxes of shells back to their home in Tennessee. I only wish my mom was here to enjoy it. She always wanted a house in Florida.

FRIENDSHIPS AT 65

I have been blessed with the most amazing friends starting as far back as first grade. This year I will go to my 47th high school reunion. I can’t wait to see so many of my old friends. We will pick up right where we left off 47 years ago.

Living in Houston for almost 40 years has brought so many special men and women into my life. I have a YaYa group and a Bunco Babes group, I have old friends from when I modeled in the 80’s, my aviation friends, church friends and the list goes on and on. Again sooooo blessed!!

At 59 I started this blog and social media accounts. I will say that I have met so many amazing women from around the world on Instagram. I could visit most any major city in the world and I would have an Instagram friend to meetup with. If you are not on Instagram then I encourage you to get the app and start by following @shesheshow. I would love to see you there!.

INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY

Isn’t is cool that my birthday is March 8th which is also International Women’s Day? I did not plan this one but if you want to know more about this international day then go here and here to read posts that I wrote over the last few years.

OPPORTUNITIES

AVIATION

I have had a gypsy spirt my entire life. Getting hired by American Airlines at 23 after I graduated from the University of Tennessee opened so many doors to travel and spread my gypsy wings in so many ways. That career led to an aviation career as a commercial pilot for a few years until I met Norman. He wanted me around to travel with him so I gave it up. Learning to fly was such a huge goal accomplished that gave me the confidence that I could do anything if I put my mind to it!!

FASHION

I was a fashionista the first day my face popped out into the world. Learning to sew at 13, majoring in textiles and clothing in college, a 10 year modeling career, opening my own fashion boutique in Colorado, designing jewelry and redesigning clothing were all important experiences to me. They all prepared me for my career as a fashion/travel & lifestyle influencer where I am having great successes and yes at 65 years old.

Life is a gift and living life until 65 is the biggest gift to me on my birthday. I am praying to live many more healthy years so I can keep talking about my life for years to come.

PHOTOS LOCATION – THE COLOR FACTORY

Color Factory is a collaborative interactive exhibit that debuted in San Francisco in 2017 and New York in 2018. What was intended as a month-long run unexpectedly flourished as a celebration of color and creativity that’s lasted over 2 years.

In October 2019, a whole new palette came to Houston in the Upper Kirby neighborhood. In over 20,000 square feet, we feature participatory installations of colors we’ve collected around the city (and space!) – hues that invite curiosity, discovery, and play. Some of our favorite artists, creatives, designers, and makers are teaming up with us to tell their unique color stories and engage all of your senses in unexpected ways.

We hope that the palette and projects offered within Color Factory will connect you to the colorful moments around Houston and in your own daily life.

Visit the Color Factory if you are in Houston.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I am so so grateful on this day! Even with achy knees, Thyroid issues, a little weight gain, thinning hair, bony hands, carpel tunnel, planter fasciitis, neck issues, saggy skin and the list goes on…. I am still loving life because of all my blessings. I am grateful for all of my friendships, life’s experiences and you my sweet readers. Thanks for following along….I can’t wait to live some more life no matter what that looks like.

Cheers to living our best lives, no matter our ages!!
