January 2, 3, & 4th
With the winds picking up, we decided to cruise back to Nassau and wait the winds out. There is so much more to do there starting with a visit to my very favorite resort Atlantis on Paradise Island. Motoring back to the marina in Nassau, we pass this majestic architectural structure, Atlantis.
We arrived in time to make it to dinner at the famous “Poop Deck,” just a short walk down the dock. We lucked out that they had fresh caught “Hog Fish” (not mentioned on the menu) and of course that is what I ordered. It is one of the best eating white fish from the sea. If you ever see it on a menu, then it is a must have!
Today we spent most of the day exploring the Atlantis resort & Hotel. Another must see if you have a bucket list. I have stayed there 3 other times and it never gets old for me. So many things to do & many great restaurants to try and not to forget the casino. I am not much of a gambler, but it is fun to pull the handle of a one armed bandit or try my luck at the black jack table.
One of my favorite things to do is observe the feeding of the fish. And these are not just any old fish. This photo is of a ‘Saw Fish’. This one is about 7 feet long and is 3 years old. The mom and dad are in another tank and they are 14 feet long. Amazing!!!!

The winds settled down somewhat today, so we cruised 8 hours south to Staniel Cay in the Exuma’s. A favorite Exuma destination due to its position in some of the most spectacular water in the world. If you like the high life then you should stay in Nassau at the Atlantis Hotel & Resort..
On our way we checked out some other cool remote spots like Compass Island. There is a small marina with very large boats & yachts. No fishing allowed, but a great spot if you like to take trails into the beautiful natural landscape of this eco friendly island and a great area for all kinds of water sports. My kind of haven!!
The fishing was good. We all caught a fish and this is my catch. I was so excited because I have never caught a Dorado before. (sometimes call Dolphin or Mahi Mahi) This fish is unique because it was neon in the water and it turned white and blue after it died. Such a pretty fish!!
So we finally made it to Staniel Cay. After we settled in, we dined on the back of the boat viewing this spectacular sunset. We were served fresh caught Dorado prepared by our very own chef David! Amazing!! Stay tuned for my next blog…..my favorite part of our trip…… Part III ……Pig Island….yes, pigs!!!!
