What is our allure with summer stripes??? I have so many stripes in my closet and I can’t seem to get enough. Today I am thrilled to share our top summer stripes from Talbots. Perfect for those of you who are addicted to stripes like me.
History of Stripes
Before I get right into all of the cute stripe styles from Talbots, I want to share a little bit of the history of stripes.
Stripes trace back all the way to the 13th century. At that time, striped clothing was considered ‘demeaning, pejorative, or clearly diabolic’ and was worn by social outcasts. A black and white stripe was once the uniform of the detainee. This went on for hundreds of years. In the late 1800’s stripe became to official uniform for prison inmates and navy seamen were issued a navy and white top as a uniform. This top had 21 stripes that represented Napoleon’s victories.
When Coco Chanel arrived on the fashion scene in Paris, she changed the perception of stripes when she made it fashionable after being inspired by the French navy men. Just leave it to Coco to inspire a trend for decades to come.
